As an artist I go back and forth between seasons of inspiration and those that feel like drought has set in. Being a creative being is a thing. The demands to ascribe to the aesthetics of those in your field (read: mentors, contemporaries, critics, etc.) while staying true to the (at times impossible) standards you’ve set for yourself are both driving forces and challenges many professional creatives face. Couple this with the continued exposure and vulnerability and I’ve found myself to have a need for a wellspring of support and encouragement.
Over the course of my life that wellspring has come from first, from the faith I’ve been given, and then people, music, books, and videos that have crossed my path time and again. Many of the people have become friends (which is awesome), and the music, books, and videos, have become attached to memories that I cherish. This is my secret chest of stuff, and I am now compelled to share it.
Every Friday I’ll be posting a single thing from the chest. If it resonates, I would encourage you to share it as well!! Go deep with it, too. Sit with the track, digest the book, and study the video. Keep track of the people. These friends are by far the greater inspiration in my life today.
