Profile Piece in World Magazine

April 12, 2018 By Andrew

Check out this profile piece in World Magazine.

Nemr is more like a jazz musician, with his body an instrument. He keeps his taps “tight,” so the sound is clear when it hits the floor, not a looser tap that “jingles around.” Legs working, ankles loose, the weight concentrates in his upper body.

Gray is the New Black – Photo Essay (with corrections)

April 11, 2018 By Andrew

I’m super excited to be featured in Claudia Paul’s recent photo essay in Jejune Magazine. Claudia is a great photographer and also happens to the be the originator of the “Kid You’ll Move Mountains” t-shirt that I’ve often been caught wearing. So when Claudia mentioned the project I jumped at the chance to work with her. The shoot was a lot of fun, and we found some really cool moments playing together.

Here the thing:

As I’m writing more, I am continually learning about the power of words, and how important corrections are. Even if its something tiny, it’s important to get it right. After reading my own answers something caught my eye. An error. So here is a correction to my own answers after reading them in print.

Original statement: “[Going grey] makes me mature, substantive.”

Correction: At no point does any physical characteristic make anyone have a particular character trait. Going grey might make me look mature in the eyes of a society that values age (or a particular aged look), but even with my hair the way it is I could be caught doing something immature. It’s really easy to think that how we look, what we wear, who we’re around, or any other trapping can make us into one thing or another. In the end who we are doesn’t come from any of these things. Who we are comes from what’s been planted inside us. It all boils down to a matter of the heart.
